Black Women Bike Networking is about connecting with like-minded people. Take Veronica O. Davis, who organizes Black Woman Bike: DC, a cycling group for black women.

On a recent NPR story, Davis told the story of being spotted by a little girl who shouted to her mother, "Mommy, mommy, it's a black lady on a bike." This experience led to a tweet on Twitter and then a Facebook group.

Two years later, her group has nearly 1,000 members. I like that she leads her members through African-American communities to encourage others to join. I can't speak to whether Davis' drive to create the group has led to business per se, but I am confident it has led to long-lasting relationships with like-minded people. This can eventually lead to business opportunities. The point is to do something you are passionate about, do it for others and you will find success down the road.

Listen to the NPR story. Don't forget to follow @BWBDC on Twitter for inspiration. There's a wonderful presentation by Davis on YouTube you should check out to learn more.

Consider how you can start a group of your own. What are you passionate about?
