Know Thyself: Personality Tests

Dave Delaney

Personality TestsMy Dad was a headhunter many years ago in Toronto. The firm he worked with was a large one, so they had access to tools others did not. One such tool was an extensive personality test they would use for candidates. My Dad chose me as his guinea pig to test the test.

I was cleaning out some old boxes in the attic recently and happened upon the test results. I was shocked by how accurate they were. It amazed me that a personality test I did twenty years ago so accurately described me now. People change, right? Not as much as you may think.

I was reminded of such personality tests from reading Beyond The To-Do List: Goals [affiliate link] by Erik Fisher and Jim Woods. I decided to follow the advice in their book and take some new tests. Most of the results didn’t surprise me, yet they served as good reminders.

How well do you know yourself?

Take some time to do one or all of the following personality tests. Be honest with yourself as you answer the questions.

When your results are available, I recommend printing them out and getting a cup of coffee. Read though them and consider their accuracy. I expect you will be surprised by what you learn about yourself.

Take a few notes on what you will do with the information. Your decision may be as small as shifting how you approach your work day, or as large as considering a new career.

Leave a comment with your thoughts. I would love to hear what you think of personality tests in general or what you learn from your own test results.
